Here at Hunt’em Up Kennels, we specialize in training pointing dogs for the foot hunter. We will take great pride and care in training your best friend. I also offer customized training for your dog. If there is something special you want your dog to learn or a habit to break, just let us know. I think that all dogs can be trained, it just takes time, patience’s and a lot of different techniques to accomplish your goals. Socializing with your dog is the key to a bold and happy gun dog. Prior to arrival your dog must be updated on all vaccinations and worming. 

We like to start young gun dogs out, between 6 and 8 months old. Once I receive the dog, know matter what the age, I will start to socialize the dog by taking him on walks and to the field on a 50’ rope. I will do this until the dog warms up to me. We will then start the dog on birds, pigeons first, then quail. Once they start chasing good, we will then start shooting over them.

We are not worried about the dog retrieving the bird back to us, as long as he picks it up and carries it around, after we shoot it for him. We will do this many times until they start pointing and holding birds well. 

Now its time for the yard work, play time is over. This is where the learning really begins. We start teaching: Kennel, Jump Up, Here, Sit, Stay, Heel, Give, To Climb Stairs, Whistle Commands, Whoa and Collar Condition. This is all taught in the yard before they ever go back into the field.

Now we head back into the field. We will now work on: Ranging, Hunt Dead, Holding Point, Retriveing and Backing. After this is completed, you can come pick up your TRAINED GUN DOG. 

After training is completed, I will send a list of commands home with you.

I ask that you do not take your new hunting dog right to the field. I want you to work on the commands with your dog. I want him to get use to your voice and movements. Remember he has been listening to me and watching my moves. When you feel good about everything, then HIT IT HARD!!!

Birds - $400.00 (One Time fee)

Deposit - $500.00 Balance due at pickup or you can pay as we go.

We also provide Tune-Ups prior to hunting season.
