For The Foot Hunter

SHORTHAIRS IN TRAINING

Hunt'em Up Kennels explanation of what we consider first year German Shorthaired Pointers in training to be:

This is where we start formal gun dog training on our first year German Shorthaired Pointers.  They have proven themselves in the show me stage and really understand what we are asking them to do. Some of our German Shorthaired Pointers will advance to this stage at a young age and others will take a little longer. See *Training Page*

If you purchase one of my first year German Shorthaired Pointers, I ask that you do not take your newly trained gun dog right to the field and start hunting.
I want you and your new dog to get to know each other first. Work on the commands and hand signals with your new German Shorthaired Pointer.  Give them time to get used to you and your voice.  Remember, all dogs will try to push you and not listen, if you give them the chance.  You have to stand your ground.  Dogs are pack animals, they need a leader and that has to be you. When you feel that you and your German Shorthaired Pointer are as one, then you will be ready to hit the field hunting. I also strongly discourage you from taking your new gun dog hunting with a bunch of buddies, for example to South Dakota, wait until next season for that.  Do not get worried if your new German Shorthaired Pointer does not perform like a pro, they will have to learn how to hunt wild birds and get to know the different types of cover and terrain.  Just remember, first year German Shorthaired Pointers are not experienced hunters yet, you will have to give them time to grow into that.

You can purchase any of our German Shorthaired Pointers in training at any time.   If you want me to finish out their training, I will take a $1,000.00 deposit to hold the German Shorthaired Pointer of your choice.  The balance can be paid, at anytime, throughout the gun dog training, or when you pick up your new Shorthair.
If you come to pick up your German Shorthaired Pointer at my kennel, I will take you and your dog, to the field and run you through all the commands until you are comfortable with them.  I will also send a list of commands home with you, along with the same kind of whistle that I used to train your Gun dog.

If Hunt'em Up Kennels ships out any of our German Shorthaired Pointers, the customer will be responsible for the cost of the kennel, vet check, airline ticket and any additional vaccines your State or Country will require, before shipping out the German Shorthaired Pointer.
Hunt'em Up Kennels will take care of all this for you.  Call any time for pricing to ship out any of our German Shorthaired Pointers, as it may vary. For more information see: *Shipping*   We will post pictures of each first year German Shorthaired Pointer that we have training.
