Hunt’em Up Kennels specializes in training gun dogs for the foot hunter. I think that all dogs can be trained and cured of most bad habits. Sometimes it just takes time and patience to accomplish that GOAL. Not all bird dogs train the same or take as long as others, for that reason, I use different techniques when training bird dogs, or any other dogs for that matter. I enjoy training all types of hunting dogs, it keeps me hopping. If you decide to have your dog trained at Hunt'em Up Kennels, please have all vaccinations up to date, prior to arrival. (Bring copy of rabies certificate). If you want to ship your hunting dog to me, I can pick it up at the Wichita or Kansas City airport. We will take care of all worming, flea and tick care at our kennel. You can bring your own dog food or I will feed mine. I use Diamond, all Natural Chicken and Rice. I can also go and buy your brand of dog food if you like. Hunt'em Up Kennels will take very good care of training your BEST FRIEND.
Training Facility
Training Field In the Young Gun Dog Training Program, we work with the young gun dogs on what we call the show me stage. We will show and introduce the young gun dogs to:
Training: Socialized with people, socialized with other dogs, introduced to birds, chasing birds, carries birds, carries dummies, chain gang, runs with a check cord, here, comes to the whistle, down, introduced to different noises, walks with a leash, climbs stairs, heel, no, sit, whoa, jump up, kennel, walks on the table, stand steady on the table, travels in a kennel, load up, introduced to water, runs in the field, wears electronic collar, finds planted birds, points birds, change direction on hupp.
This exposure develops the young hunting dogs natural instincts. We do not, in anyway, force them to preform any of these training tasks. It is very important for the young bird dog to enjoy all these new hunting experiences, without any training pressure. During this stage of development, we are laying the foundation for a great gun dog. They will then be ready for the next stage of training.
We start young gun dogs out as young as 3 months old. This can take up to 3 months of training. The cost is $500.00 per
month. We request the first month down when you drop off your young hunting dog for training and
the balance when you pick them up.
Birds are a one time charge of $150.00. We will use 20 to 25
quail and pigeons during the young gun dog stage.

First Year Gun Dog Program
When a dog starts the First Year Gun Dog Training Program, they are usually mature enough to handle all formal training. We will run all gun dogs through the show me stage, showing them each training task, to insure that the hunting dog understands, what it is we require of them. I will then reinforce each command until the gun dog
masters it. If there are things your bird dog already has mastered please let me know. *See below*

We can start first year gun dogs as young as 6 months old. This can be a 3 to 4 month gun dog training program. It all depends on the bird dogs ability to learn. The cost is $600.00 per
month. We request the first month down, when you drop off your hunting dog for training and
the balance can be paid as we go or when you pick up your trained gun dog.
Birds are a one time charge of $400.00. We will use 75 to 80 quail and pigeons over your gun dog during training.
This Tune Up Program is for gun dogs that are already trained. We take your gun dog, prior to opening day or anywhere in between. We will refresh your hunting dog on everything that he already knows. We will hunt your dog in the field and plant 20 quail for them. If there is anything you want your bird dog to learn or concentrate on more, just let us know.
This is a one week tune up program and the cost is $250.00. We request $100.00
down, when you drop off your gun dog for training and the balance when you pick them up.

When your hunting dog's
training has been completed, I will take you and your gun dog, to the field
and run
you through all the commands until you are comfortable with them. I
will also send a list of commands
home with
you. If you shipped your dog to me, I will send you the list of commands and the same kind of whistle I used to train your bird dog. I will call you and explain all commands to you. You can call me at any time with any questions.
I ask, that you do not
take your newly trained gun dog right to the field and start
hunting. I
want you and your new hunting dog to get to know each other first. Work on
the commands and hand signals with your new bird dog.
Give them time to get use to you and your voice. Remember, all dogs will try to push you and not listen, if
you give them the chance.
You have to
stand your ground. Dogs are pack
animals, they need
a leader and that has to be you. When you feel that you and your bird dog
are as one, then you will be ready to hit
the field hunting. I also strongly discourage you not to take your new bird dog
hunting with a bunch of buddies, for example to South Dakota, wait until
next season for that. Do not get worried if your new bird dog does not perform like
a pro, they will have to learn how to hunt wild birds and get to
know the different types of cover and terrain. Just remember, a first
year gun dog is not an experienced hunter yet, you
will have to give them time to grow into that. If you have any questions with anything about gun
dog training, please give me a call.
Hunt'em Up Kennels, wishes you and yours a safe and happy hunting season.
